چکیده

In the traffic flow on the city road network, it is observed that a new additional road, which is constructed for overcoming the traffic jam, causes more terrible traffic jam. This is well known as Braess’s paradox. Recently, it is pointed out that Braess’s paradox depends on the traffic density and the paradox disappears at high traffic density. The aim of this study is to describe the algorithm for increasing traffic amount by changing road network. The algoriothm is applied for simple numerical example. The road networks are determined at different traffic density. The results show that the road network for increasing traffic flow depends on the traffic density and, at high traffic density, the Braess’s paradox may disappear.

Optimal Signal Control in Urban Road Networks with High Priority Congested Centers

Keeping the density of traffic flow and air pollution in an acceptable level and developing a good capacity for transit in the high priority areas of the city, is really a big deal in large and crowded cities. To address this problem, a new method of intersection signal optimization is presented in this paper. Based on network fundamental diagrams, an Internal–External Traffic Metering Strategy...

Urban road network crisis response management: time-sensitive decision optimization

With the increasing global stock of vehicles, traffic congestion is becoming more severe and costly in many urban road networks. Road network modeling and optimization are essential tools in predicting traffic flow and reducing network congestion. Markov chains are remarkably capable in modeling complex, dynamic, and large-scale networks; Google’s PageRank algorithm is a living proof. In this a...

Method of Video-Measurements of Traffic Flow Characteristics at a Road Junction

In the theory of traffic flows the main characteristics are: intensity, speed, and density.  They make it possible to use hydrodynamic models. In connection with the development of modern highways and road networks, traffic flows behavior is becoming more and more complex and diverse. In particular, the B.Kerner studies have shown that the laminar solution of hydrodynamic models is poorly corre...

A New Genetic Algorithm Based Lane-By-Pass Approach for Smooth Traffic Flow on Road Networks

Traffic congestion in urban areas is a very critical problem and increasing day-by-day due to increment in number of vehicles and un-expandable traffic infrastructure. Several intelligent control systems have been developed to deal with this issue. In this paper, a new lane bypass algorithm has been developed for route diversion resulting in smooth traffic flow on the urban road networks. Genet...
